The Burren Slow Food Festival

Slow Food is a global, grassroots movement with thousands of members around the world that links the pleasure of food with a commitment to community and the environment. It was founded in 1989 in Italy as a global movement when the first McDonald’s opened their doors in Italy. The founder of Slow Food, Carlo Petrini, was horrified about the latest “invasive species” at the time, and established Slow Food as a counterbalance to Fast Food.

It promotes sustainable food production, the conservation of farm animal breeds, fruits and vegetables that are on the brink of extinction, and also the dying out art of local food production techniques.
