The city’s renowned social and cultural hub in the The Latin Quarter is supporting Galway’s bid to become the 2020 European Capital of Culture by offering video enthusiasts the opportunity to win €2,020.
“We are searching for the video that best captures the energy, the magic and the spirit of Galway,” said Margaret Jenkins, Chairperson of The Latin Quarter.
Various forms of footage are accepted including videos taken on your mobile phone, along with the use of professional recording equipment.
“Ultimately the footage that best explains, in a visual way, why the City of the Tribes should become the 2020 European Capital of Culture will win the coveted prize.
“There is such scope to create something really special that will be showcased across the globe. It’s a competition for everyone and there has already been huge interest, so we’re really looking forward to viewing all the footage,” added Margaret Jenkins.
Entries are being welcomed from all individuals including children, regardless whether they are a fanatical videographer or a complete beginner. There is no restriction on where the footage should be filmed once it’s in Galway city or county and you don’t have to be a Galwegian to take part as entries are welcome from natives of all counties and countries.
People can enter as many time as they like, however each entry can be no longer than 90 seconds. The key is capturing what’s so special about the City of the Tribes. Cash prizes for second and third place will also be offered and the winning entry will receive promotional exposure locally, nationally and internationally.
The Latin Quarter encompasses the vibrant areas of Quay Street, High Street, Cross Street and the Spanish Arch.
